Convict Biography

John Adams - 1805 - Convict Biography - History of Australia

John Adams had been out on a bender one night in 1804, and while staggering down the street blind out of his face he found another drunk laying in the gutter.  He put this other drunk's shoes and hat on and staggered a few feet down the road before collapsing into unconsciousness himself.

He was still unconscious when he came to trial a few hours latter, so they called a doctor into the court to who pocked him until he twitched, which they interpreted as a plea of "Not Guilty".

They found him guilty.

They carried him aboard the transport ship while still unconscious.

He was on his way to New South Wales to work as a farm labourer at Richmond in NSW; where he lies today, in a pauper's grave.

COMMENT - They do say that "justice delayed is justice denied", but the speed with which this convict was processed into their State-administered slave labour force would be ridiculous if it was a little less ethically obscene. - John Hibberd
