1871 - NSW Trade Union Council - Australia History

25 May 1871 - A council has been established for trade unions in the Colony of NSW to bring together the increasing number of organisations which have formed to argue the case of workers.

There are currently almost 20 trade unions in NSW and although there has been strong criticism of the movement as the ‘curse of the working man in the mother country’, workers seem to be supporting their unions, especially in industries such as mining.

So far the union movement in mining has made strong advances for its workers in the form of improved working conditions.
